Looking back….

My story of becoming involved in NCJW, like many others, involves a friend. Approximately 8 years ago, my friend Rochelle Welsh invited me to a couple of programs that I thoroughly enjoyed.  Soon after, she nominated me to the NCJW Board. Since then, it’s been a journey of personal growth, a place to feel I’m making a difference and a wonderful “home” full of an ever expanding family of friends.
Being on the Board, I was fortunate to start with Hospitality, an underrated committee not often considered important on the volunteer scale, but along with getting active taking organizational photographs, I put together names and faces and quickly became more and more familiar with NCJW and the fabulous people running and involved in the organization and programs. I have had a variety of rewarding experiences: tutoring at Coleman Young, volunteering at Project Friendship luncheon events, collecting and sorting shoes for Shoes to Share, packing for Backpacks, sorting books and working the Bookstock sale, delivering for Meals on Wheels, helping at Back2SchoolStore, pitching in at our Resale Shop in Berkley, and not the least, becoming active in organizational meetings and being elected as a Vice President.
Attending programs is often a reward in itself.  Over the years, I’ve enriched my life by going to Fall Focus meetings, Women of Vision events, many, many Board Meetings, visiting NCJW’s All Kids Playground, going on NCJW trips downtown to the DIA and Dan Gilbert and Quicken Loans buildings plus attending many fabulous Nosh and Knowledge Luncheons.
Time seems to be speeding up as the years pass, but looking back, I’m fortunate to know my getting from and giving to NCJW has made a tremendous difference in my life and the lives of others.
Look at my photos and see the smiles!
