For several years I paid my annual dues and attended a few functions. Then I joined a Mahj group. Marsha Zucker, of blessed memory, was in the group. She was an officer at NCJW and she told us about a new project – The Victim Service Council. My children were all in school and I had some free time.

We were trained and two of us “manned” the phones at a time. One of us would call the Southfield Police Department and give a list of names and phone numbers of those who needed our help. Our job was to reassure them that we were available. Sometimes we made referrals and sometimes just talked.

From there I became a Board member and I have remained an active volunteer.
